What it is

Medical microdermabrasion is a medical-grade deep clean — a precise exfoliation that buffs away dead skin cells and leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean and fresh. It’s the facial equivalent of pressing reset on your complexion.

What it treats

  • Blackheads and open pores — the deep clean combination skin needs.
  • Dull, tired-looking skin — buffing away the dead layer that dulls the complexion.
  • Uneven texture — smoother surface after a single session.
  • Skincare absorption — products work better on freshly exfoliated skin.

Who it’s for

  • Combination skin with blackheads and open pores — the deep clean helps keep pores clear
  • Dull, tired-looking skin that needs refreshing
  • Most skin types — and it’s one of the very few facials suitable if you’re pregnant
  • Or simply if you’d like a proper reset and a healthy glow

With dermaplane — for facial fluff

If you have facial fluff (peach fuzz), you can add a dermaplane to the treatment — a gentle blade that skims away the fine hairs and top layer of dead skin, leaving an even smoother, brighter finish. Medical microdermabrasion with dermaplane is £90.

What to expect

A 45-minute treatment with Anne: she cleanses and prepares the skin, performs the medical-grade microdermabrasion, and talks you through aftercare. You’ll leave with your skin feeling fresh, clean and noticeably brighter.

The evidence

Microdermabrasion is well studied as a resurfacing option, and the evidence is honest about its depth. Systematic reviews find it effective for superficial concerns — dull texture, mild photo-damage, some fine lines and mild acne scarring — with minimal downtime, while concluding it can't match deeper treatments (lasers, deeper peels, medical microneedling) for significant scarring or deep wrinkles. Compared in trials with superficial chemical peels, results are broadly similar. What the research is honest about: this is a maintenance and brightening treatment, not a corrective one — for deeper concerns, stronger evidence sits behind microneedling and RF microneedling.

Common questions

How long does it take?

45 minutes, including cleansing, the treatment and aftercare guidance.

Is it suitable during pregnancy?

Yes — medical microdermabrasion is one of the very few facials suitable during pregnancy. Anne will confirm the details at your consultation.

Will my skin be sore afterwards?

No — it’s a deep clean, not an abrasive one. Skin feels fresh and bright straight away, with a healthy glow.

What is the dermaplane option?

If you have facial fluff, a gentle dermaplane blade skims away fine hairs and the top layer of dead skin for an even smoother finish — available as an add-on for £90.

Is it right for me?

Microdermabrasion suits most skin types and is one of the few treatments suitable during pregnancy. It's the right entry point for texture, blackheads and dullness — but it isn't the answer for deep scarring or significant pigmentation, where RF microneedling or IPL do the heavier lifting. Anne will tell you which route fits your skin honestly.
